Another lost river - the Glasgow Burn?

Postby Chudleigh » Sat Apr 29, 2017 9:40 am

Can anyone give information about Glasgow's other underground waterway, which appears on old maps as 'Burn called Glasgow'? It empties into the Clyde near Custom House Quay and the exit pipe tends to be covered at high tide. It runs north to south as far as 'Meikle Cowcaldanes' (Glasgow City map 1547) and then does a dog-leg eastwards. I have been unable to locate where it rises and if it makes an appearance along its course.

Thank you for your reply - I have discovered it was also called St Enoch's Burn, and that it flowed on the western boundary of the village of Grahamston. It now flows underground close to Mitchell Street before passing under Argyll Street en route to the Clyde. I wonder where it rises?
