Lodging Houses

Were the Lodging houses the same as the Poorhouse?
What does 'Model' mean?
Is there any details or lists of all the Lodging houses from 1800's to around early 1900's anywhere?

model lodging houses pretty much sprung up in glasgow to house men who came in from other areas to work in the big industries here.the potent mix of men away from home with a wage in their pocket it wasnt too long until the alcohol drinking began to become more frequent and these places began to become as run down as the residents occupying them.

It was published in 1956 (the year after Dr Laidlaw's death) by The Health & Welfare Committee of the Corporation of Glasgow.

The Lodging House Mission is still running, although they have adapted their scope over the years.

My father had an often used saying "there but by the grace of God go I", reading that essay I can fully understand the true meaning of that saying.

Now these poor folk are put into flats on their own and left to their own devices. Most end up in such poor condition they are put into care homes.

Yeah, I like those essays too.

The most interesting books are those, which written in essay style of writing.
