Here's some photos that I took in the early 1970s. There is a couple taken from the back of Hope Street showing the open section

I have heard from a reliable source that the partial reopening of the North Platform as a terminal platform is being investigated.

This has been puzzling me. I've been on the tour a couple of times, and Paul, one of the tour guides, states that there was (possibly still is) a tunnel which actually runs up from Central low-level directly to the Royal Infirmary. Now, he strikes me as being a bit of a wind-up merchant, but he's stated this on both tours I was on, and when I've questioned him about it and asked if he's maybe confusing it with tales of the BT tunnels or the line carrying injured servicemen to Stobhill, etc. he remains adamant and claims to have walked it many times in the past, and he says it was used during WWI.

"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.
