Gray Dunn biscuit factory, Stanley Street

Postby granticle » Sun Sep 16, 2012 8:09 pm

After driving past it loads of times along the new M74 / M8 and seeing from the graffiti that people had obviously been inside, I went exploring today...

A massive, interesting, great building to explore. Pretty sturdy, safe floors and staircases. Some great graffiti inside too. I would have stayed longer, but as with all derelict the wind was creating lots of creepy noises that freaked out the person I was with, so we didn't stay too long :P

I always prefered their caramel wafers to Tunnocks.
He advocated for the weak against the strong, the poor against the rich and labour against capital.

The building's also been used for a rather strange music video.
Not sure if hip-hop with a Glasweigan accent is my thing... :)

How did you get in it's supposed to have security covering it from round at the yellow building not to mention security patrols done on it , looks like someone may not be doing their job properly :)

Having been in there several times myself just be aware several areas are unsafe in there and the local junkies are known to lodge there also. Thankfully I don't work for that security company anymore

Hey, CG, where've you been? Ten more days and it would literally have been years.

No matter how guarded somewhere might ordinarily be, btw, you can always get in on the second of January. It's National No Security Guard Day.

My dad used to get bags of reject black magic chocolate and breakaway biscuits from there. :D

Been here and there , last job actually allowed me to do a lot of urban exploration across Scotland as I had to do key holding and vacant property visits including Stanley st. I'm back at the courts again and hopefully gonna make a habit of appearing regularly again

Without giving too much away... once on site, it's easy enough to find access to the stairwell, and once you do, then you have access to all floors.

I've heard from others that the security weren't very good and were happy to give people a "tour" ::): But I didn't see any when I was there.

I would say any old building can be unsafe if you're not careful what you're doing, but the majority of the building still seems structurally sound. Just watch for ceiling tiles covering holes in the floor... I've also heard (although didn't explore myself) that the final floor before the roof has become inhabited by millions of pigeons, so you risk getting dive bombed and covered in bird mess if you enter it.

Driving past the building at the weekend on the M8 and spotted three guys with scarves round their heads and carrying what looked like tripods running across the top floor - didn't see any pigeons reacting though.
