Funny, I was thinking that myself. It becomes more obvious with the scanned, enlarged image.

Sorry to disappoint the UFO enthusiasts among you, but I'm almost certain it's an airship. I seem to remember there was one floating about quite a lot at the time of the Garden Festival.

Was going to watch the episode of Taggart set at the GF at the weekend, but chose another one instead. Did however see the first shot which was an aerial one of the entire festival ground. Looked so cool! ;) I really wish I could remember it. :(

Here are a few more fest pics:

The view from the tower.

Not sure what the significance of all this was - gardens from around the world, perhaps?

The Coca-Cola Roller.

A younger, darker, slimmer Armadillo in the hall of mirrors - note the disembodied floating head.

These photos show how useful it is to have a tower at a festival. Plenty of panoramic views give a great overview of what it was about.

Everytime I see a panoramic picture of the festival, I feel amazed that almost NOTHING of it exists.... you see concrete paths and structures.... all gone!

Disappointing to see how the site has gone, but it has to be said that part of the deal was that the site would be cleared and developed after the festival ended. They just didn't say how long it would be between the two happening.

A lot of the construction was surface only, and sadly wouldn't have lasted more that a few years if it had been left in place. I remember haunting Brand St. afterwards, where the had their 'build and break' maintenance area for the site, and watching the stuff being dispersed for months after the closure.

A friend of mine was involved in moving the 'tea kettle' under police escort... they got it stuck between two barriers so apparently the police turned a blind eye while they dismantled the barrier around it.... naughty

The big yellow kettle went to Gourock for a while, I remember getting asurprise seeing it there the first time. It sat at the far end of the car park, on the land between the station and the start of the houses.

Gone now, it was only there for a few years then disappeared. Don't recall what it was used for... maybe a tourist office or visitor information centre.
