Tobester, can I beseech you NOT to go. I for one enjoy your posts and am thoroughly grateful for your transport updates.

The thing about our Dex that a lot of people miss is - it's a persona, not the person .. those same people take his asides as personal digs when I actually don't think they are.

I've met the man in the flesh on a fair few occasions and I have to say a more reasonable, personable and affable bloke I could not wish to meet.

Where his posts always have a point, a point which is sometimes put over in a way that may come across as acidic, it is usually a valid one. If you cut through the persona and see the point being made, it is usually a well constructed viewpoint and a vehicle to deeper discussion on whichever subject is being advanced.

We can all take things personally, especially if the person taking the mick is bloody good at it, but the Dex we see here isn't the man you get in real life. I'd miss his acid tongue, if he were to reign it in, as much as I'd miss your photos and mini-blog on your travels around the country to places I could never stretch to afford to visit.

Deep breaths, count to ten and stay, please .. you're a valuable contributor.
I like him ... He says "Okie Dokie!"

I'd be sorry to see you go Tobester and agree with what Doorstop has said above, I'm just not clever enough to put it into words.

Please reconsider your decision to quit HG.

Drop me a PM if you want

Cheers

Tobester,
He has probably already taken advantage of your effort and just downloaded or reposted the photos of yours that he wants.

He did that to me and probably to others.
In this post he uses one of my photos;
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=26&p=242392&hilit=ettrick#p242392

Of course i say on my blog "Don't steal the pictures. Ask to use them." he thinks he makes the decision and puts a link.
Everyone else who has asked i have given them better updated versions of the pictures to use when they asked. ( I have updated the linked website so he has a newer better version to steal )

To top it off, and shows that he downloads the pictures, the link of the image is to ;
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg10 ... trick9.jpg
Now the 9 in the number also implies to me that he has other images from elsewhere as well. He is collecting images in his own photobucket account to use instead of going taking pictures himself.
The cheek telling you to change your flickr account settings when he has probably already downloaded the lot.
I kept screen shots of the posts and links so i can see his edits.

To be honest he might be being polite and avoiding hotlinking - polite to Tobester and to this site, the latter in that broken links are a pain. No I'm not especially speaking up for Dex (check my posting history if you don't believe me), and no I haven't any ulterior motive. Just for the sake of balance.

This post might make me a bit unpopular with some, but sod it: I don't like the pack mentality, and I equally don't want Tobester to quit. (If I could bang both of heir heads together I likely would.)

Tobester, this seems a bit to me like cutting your nose off to spite your face. If you don't like it here, feel free to stay away. If you do like it, but don't agree with what some people say, I'm sure you can handle that in a diplomatic manner as the rest of us try to. We don't always succeed, but membership of the board is worth it. To me anyway.

Everyone else - seems to me some folk are using this as an opportunity to say nasty things about Dexter that they didn't have the nerve to say in open on the board before. Personally, I take his barbs with a pinch of salt and appreciate his knowledgeable contributions when they come along.

What are you on about ? I used one photo from your site and provided a link to show where it came from. If you put a photo up on the web I take it you want people to check them out. Why would I want to down load Tobester's photos when they're here for everyone to see. Why would I download your photographs? In case someone else has a question about a pub you've whipped out your camera in?
And how come you failed to mention this in your missive on Dec 7th? More interested in answering my question or your ASD restricts you to one topic at a time?. You must be kicking yourself for missing an opportunity for a major put down.

Despite his threat to fuck off Tobester is still here. I'm sure he'll be interested in finding out where my probable stash of his photos are. So am I. Evidence please if you don't mind.

Having taking time out, i will still post on here and help people with queries but for now picture posting is gone.

I know that DstC hasnt used my pics for his own gain, as im sure that any pics used come with a credit to the original taker, and i dont have issues with other members/people doing so

My pics will be on flickr and as i said i dont want to move them as it breaks links here and on other sites and that causes mods (the good ones) problems.

So for now my pic posting is a thing of the past

Travel Like tobester for a mere £19.

Travel anywhere in Scotland for just
£19 return
Now you can save even more when you shop at
Sainsbury’s. Spend £15 or more at any of their
Scottish supermarkets (or just £5 at a
Sainsbury’s Local) between 11 January and 7
February 2012 and you will receive a Scotland
by Rail voucher which entitles you to choose
from two great offers: Travel anywhere in
Scotland for only £19 return – regardless of
how far you want to travel. Or, for the same
price you can take a child with you absolutely
FREE – that’s one adult and one child travelling
together for only £19 return anywhere in
Scotland. Just ask for your voucher at the
checkout.
Rail vouchers are valid for travel between 11
January and 31 March 2012 inclusive and can
be used at half term. Please refer to your
voucher for full travel terms and conditions

BTW One voucher lets you buy two return tickets at £19 each
