Stranraer and Stena Line

Postby Dot » Fri Mar 20, 2009 4:36 pm

Can anyone tell me if Stena Line are going to stop the Larne-Stranraer route?
I think I heard or read somewhere that they were going to gradually move from Stranraer site and relocate somewhere else. Probably will not matter to me that much as usually get the Troon boat if going to Scotland.
Was just curious about it as have travelled to both Stranraer and Cairnryan in the past.

They're moving it just out of Stranraer.

Luckily enough i was browsing Sand and Gravel news for a bit of dirt on a ceratin contributor when i came across this

BBC News Online

"Stena Line wants to move its Irish Sea services out of Stranraer and along the coast to Old House Point in order to cut journey times and fuel costs,"

Old House Point

I use the ferries a lot. Im wondering what the situation is with the trains. Was really handy it went right into the harbour.
Is this gonna be a standup fight, sir, or another bughunt?

Yes and can't see me going back to Stranraer any day soon.
Better to be on the boat a wee bit longer and then a shorter drive to Glasgow.

Stena Line don't server Larne Stranraer, they sail out of Belfast Lough. P&O sail out of Larne.

Stena are supposedly moving their operation from Stranraer nearer to Cairnryan, to save time sailing in and out of Loch Ryan. A bugger for those meeting the ferry by train. It's already a bitch trying to get from anywhere in England to meet the ferry. A move to Cairnryan will not help.
A vagabond on the way.

Yes you are quite right and I have sailed on all the routes to Scotland.

It's Larne-Troon and Larne-Cairnryan for P&O.
Stena goes from Belfast as you say.

See someone jumped off the Troon boat at the weekend but they were rescued.

Spotted earlier today on the web.
A hefty price tag for a trip across the water.

Were you over on a mini break or to play music in some of the local venues?

which is all well and good however what about foot passengers who would like the "luxury" of a train from the port to Glasgow?
I sat for 4 hours - alone :( :( in Stranraer's cold and creepy station one night last November waiting for the next train cause my ferry was late and I missed the last one!

Why can't we get water transport from Ireland all the way up to the Clyde??

not necessarily this
