Paisley Town

Canal Street Church, now Castlehead Church was built by Paisley weavers in 1791 . Among those buried in its churchyard were the poet Robert Tannahill and the maternal great-grandparents of U.S. President Ronald Reagan. The President visited the site during a brief trip to Scotland in 1991 .

By the way, the Erection refers to the building on the wall of which this plaque is affixed. Just in case you were wondering....

I guess the Hammermen Society was quite the thing in 18th Century Paisley - interesting contrast between the versions of their logo on HH's last photo and that one.

Old street sign , originally under glass at Townhead Terrace , Paisley. The corresponding one accross the way still has it's glass but is illegible:

Mrs VT spotted this this old sign just down the same street:

Something illegible
Something CUTTING
DRESSMAKING
SCHOOL
TWO STAIRS UP

I did search HG and found nothing , so appologies if this is the first thing old buddies take snaps of 8)

Would the first word be couture? i don't think Paisley could make a claim for Haute Couture

The next line Dress Cutting
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

It might be Rodmure, since there was a Rodmure school of dressmaking in Glasgow (my mum trained there), and there were other branches (according to Ms Google).
