Bicyclettes sont passe!

Think our polis are modern with their bikes? http://www.hiddenglasgow.com/forums/posting.php?mode=quote&f=3&p=149361

Look at what the Paris Polis have on their feet. They can swoop in , hit a priest ridden Tibetan on the head and zoom off to the next one.

Touché Dexter! A good point I must admit... Europe the leading edge of mobility-technology . While I can picture a Glasgow polis riding a bike down Hope St., i can't imagine him doing it on in-line skates.

You say: "Think our polis are modern with their bikes?". Does this, together with Josef's terse comment, mean the Police in Glasgow already use bicycles?

Brilliant!

Apparently they were trialled in the UK in 2000, but abandoned when grass was shown to stop the chase!

Wonderful thing Google:
www.bikepatrol.nl wrote:Strathclyde Police
Strathclyde Police bicycle patrols began in 1996 when local Community Councils supplied 2 cycles tothe Force.
The initial success created a demand, which was met by other Community Councils in the East Kilbride area, who
supplied additional cycles for use in community based policing. Due to the success of these initiatives,
Strathclyde Police launched the Mountain Bike Patrol Initiative in July 1998.
Currently the Force has 124 cycles and 202 officers who are deployed across its 9 Divisions
And if you'd clicked on Josef's comment rather than just noticing it as 'terse': http://www.scotland.gov.uk/News/Releases/2007/12/12103118/Q/Video/429

I visited the site you recommended Sharon, and found it worth reading. Like i mentioned earlier, Europe is the leading edge of mobility-technology! I have never seen policemen on blades yet, and aside from the usual means of moving, only on bicyles. I hope the idea sticks.

It was seeing riot police on rollerskates that I finally realised I was living in the future after all, or at least a mid 70s version of the future which in my eyes amounts to pretty much the same thing
