PS thinking about it, Bannermans is a bit of a tip after all, full of punks and things.

Bannerman's must have changed much since my day. It used to be a good wee shop. A bit bohemian and with good live music. This was, of course, before the Cowgate became a 24x7 vertical drinking area.

For a long while advertising stickers all over Edinburgh read "Shun culture- drink in Bannerman's Bar"

Just out of shear curiosity, has anyone got any pictures of the buildings that were destroyed in the great fire of Edinburgh a few years back? The new 'replacement' is a posh hotel and I was interested to see a before shot for comparisson

Ach, I was being unduly harsh - the place is ok. I've just got a thing about punks :? It's certainly less threatening than the other Cowgate places can be (thinking especially of that retarded testosterone nightmare the Three Sisters) and has a nice cozy basement vibe. The PA through the back is awful though, and/or the soundman is an idiot.

Odd that this thread's been rounded on :? Mentioning Bannerman's 3 times, kinda like Beetlejuice, perhaps?
