The rallies themselfs will probably be ok because they are pre-planned. Its on the streets with the anarchists that would be a bad move. They spoil the whole debate on poverty etc. because they make people think that all anti-globalisation protesters are like maniacs :(

I dont even think they care about the issues being put forward anyway, its a bit like hooligans going to a football match just to attend the riot :) :o

I'd rather not spend a day with hippies. ::):

Unlike the gender bender above I won't be masturbating over porn mags.

I have a concience and I'll be there in Edinburgh with my family - who also care.

How much do you reckon you and your family will spend on a day at the rally? Because who really benefits from this ???

Maybe work that out and decide whether its still worth attending, because surely if everyone just did something useful with that cash instead of attending a street party it would be of more use to all???

just a thought ;)

Sharon... the voice of reason.

There comes a time when the part total more than the whole, and all I see the G8 protestors having achieved is much news coverage about Edinburgh disruption, Auchterardar, a fence, another fence, potential violence, Bob Geldof, policing costs, more publicity for George whatisname, and I for one am sure Rent-a-Mob will be packing huge cheques into their Swiss bank accounts too, and having a joly good day out at everyone eles's expense.

Protest and representation are one thing, but bullying by any other name is still bullying.

I'm going and will be taking part in one of the organised marches. People have a democratic right to peaceful protest and this is one of the most visible ways people can make their views known to those in power.

As for the tear gas, the plods will carry personal CS sprays but there are no plans for heavy handed tactics like baton rounds or tear gas grenades. If it kicks off it will be on the periphery and it'll be the people that are asking for a doing anyway that get it.

How sick must all those other worthy charities be feeling now? I bet their contributions have taken a nosedive.

Maybe you could all stay at home and send the cash you might have spent on attending a rally to a worthy (other) cause...

It's attitudes like that that really piss me off. There's always someone moaning about people who actually get off their arses and stand up for what they believe in. Yes, there's plenty of charities out there that deserve our money but I really don't think that their donations will go down just because some people spend the day in edinburgh instead of sitting about doing nothing.
