First saturday in a while with some nice weather, took myself off to
take a few picks and have a few chilled drinks far way from ned types.

Photos were taken with my Olympus D-540 camera, not the best of
gear, but can hide the thing away when not in use.

Was in Edinburgh earlier, and trying to get a ticket to North Berwick, but
the queue was an insane length. So walked across the city to Haymarket,
caught the train across the bridge, had a few pints. Not much of an ale
drinker, but the Belhaven Best was chilled and smooth to the bottom of
the glass. So good had 5 pints and went back into Edinburgh to take
some more photos.

Some friends on the way back up the winding streets to the station.

Hi Sharon, was just updating the text there, more mention of booze

How was Edinburgh yourself? I caught the 10.00pm back from Waverley,
was kind of walking fast incase I missed it otherwise it would have been
a taxi back from Glasgow (£60) 8O

The law on street drinking is just the same as Glasgow or for that
matter anywhere in the UK. There are exceptions, take for example
in Ashton lane, you can drink as long as you stand behind the yellow
line. I think Ginty's was pushing the line with the law on that one,
perhaps about property boundaries or something related.

The wee tower thing is in fact a harbour light, which did have lighthouse-style 'cage' arrangement on top last time I saw it, and the notice says it's being restored. I don't know if the 15º angle it sits at can be sorted.

Took the bike over on Sunday, and the weather was grand. Only a few photos though.

It's interesting in its way, but I wish the white sheeting and scaffolding would piss off:

Lest we forget how big the bridge is:

Arguably Inverkeithing not North Queensferry, but sod it. A wee part of the massive scrap yard to the north of the Ferry Hills. Used to be a shipbreakers; Olympic and Aquitania were broken up here:

I hope the Forth Bridge works are over soon. Back in the day I used to cycle out here and head on past where the portacabins are on the second photo, to relax and eat sandwiches right under the bridge's superstructure. I'm a bit worried the area there will never be opened up to the public again, and annoyed that I never brought a camera along when it was accessible.

The view from there beat South Queensferry hands down: you could stand under the landfall of the northern main span and gawk at the scale of the damn thing. Plus, once upon a time, there was set of wooden stairs up to the top of the north east foundation of the cantilever tower, leading to an unsecured iron door. Then a set of stairs up to track level. Along with a pal, I made it about half way up before completely bottling it. (Again, I wish I'd had a camera, but I was only 15.)

Sho, I took my first trip to North Queensferry by train the other day, mainly to have a look at the newly scaffolding-free Forth Bridge, but since I was in the neighbourhood I thought I'd have a nosey at the Second World War anti-aircraft gun emplacement just up the road from the station. Sadly (for me) it's not as accessible as it used to be, as it's now surrounded by recent houses, and the underground portions have been converted into offices. Good in the sense of making the place weathertight, but not much use for roaming around in.

Anyhow, it's still there:
Image

Though one of the two gun sites is now a compost bin (complete with what look like pins for holding down the gun mount):
Image

It's slightly off-putting though, and I kept expecting somebody to come along and complain:
Image

Still, at least it's all being looked after:
Image

In any case, this is the main attraction, and it's lovely to see it uncovered again:
Image

I hadn't been up close in years (decades even?), and had slightly forgotten how monumental the thing is:

And how beautiful, in a bloody-big-engineering-thing kind of way:

Over 120 years old now, and the scale of the thing is still staggering:
Image

Cheating slightly here as it's looking back from the south, and it's a bog standard view that must have been snapped tens of thousands of times over the years, but it's good to have it back:

You are not wrong there. The thing is surprisingly delicate with it though 8O
