A friend of mine in Colorado sent me this picture of a place not far from where he lives called Rico.
I discovered that the name of the street where this was taken is South Glasgow Avenue. Done a bit of research and reckon it was called after John Glasgow a prosperous prospector.

This piece talks about early adventures in mining in Colorado and mentions prominent names

"As early as 1860 Gus Begole prospected the Dolores River valley and located some galena lodes near the site of Rico. The area remained inactive until Sandy Campbell, James Buchanan and William (Adobe) Brown came into the region. John Glasgow, Bob Snyder and Ed. Robinson followed and in 1869 a party on a prospecting trip from Santa Fe penetrated the area. Jack Eccles, Joe Fearheller, Tom Sager, Tinker Brown....
.....The party of prospectors returned to Fort Defiance in August and reported their discoveries to E. N. Darling. Mr. Darling and his party were surveying boundaries of the Ute Indian Reservation and the Territory of New Mexico for the United States Government...."
I assume some of these people were of Scottish descent.
Whats the history re Scottish settlers and prospectors in the mid West - anyone know any interesting stories?
