Noticed Muirhead's keycutters next door. Probably part of Muirheads department store in Sauchiehall St.

Re: Glasgow Street Characters Old and New

Wish I knew the whole story about them too. My grandmother knew about them as she lived in that area but I forgot what she told me. I'll ask my mother, she's 87 and loves talking about her memories and I'm now at the age where I'm paying attention. ::): As they say everyone has a story and some of t...

Re: Edinburgh

Great pictures.
Daughter has been living for a couple of years in Edinburgh and I've visited a few times both of us getting acquainted with this city to the east that we didn't know anything about. ::): It's got a hell of a lot of interesting nooks and crannies and the Haar!

Glasgow Street Characters Old and New

Maybe there's another thread but it alludes me after searching high and low. On the second floor of the Provands Lordship one of the walls is given over to pictures and stories of Glasgow street characters over the centuries. One of them that springs to mind was the poor man who had no legs and woul...

Re: Photographs by Margaret Watkins. Now till sorry don't kn

Hidden Gallery has Margaret Watkins - Glasgow in the 1930's Part 2 on exhibition until March 7th. I'm still intrigued as to why Margaret chose Glasgow to settle in and what her story was until she died in obscurity in 1969. I think I've found the answer in this article and in Joe Mulholland's though...

Re: An extinct job?

Love the writing and wording on those Robert. I have a hunch that Moodie's Court was previously called Argyle Market and it was around where M&S is now. That first document states it's address as "nearly opposite the Black Bull" :) Maybe it had an entrance on Argyle St and Glassford St...

Re: An extinct job?

Moodies Court 31 Argyle St - a place I'd previously never heard of had quite a number of ticket writers, bookbinders etc in residence.

Anyone know anything about it?

Is it something to do with "holding" and "daud" meaning either a chunk or to strike?
