Re: Sculptures and Statues around Glasgow

Love these Art Noveau faces looking out from the upper levels of a south side corner tenement. http://www.scotcities.com/cathcart/mtfaces.jpg It is widely but wrongly assumed that Glasgow’s Art Nouveau was all down to Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his associates. Everyday architecture of the time wa...

Re: The Old Cathcart churchyard and Linn Park

Just finished a drawing of Cathcart Castle ruins as it may have looked 30 years ago before it was flattened. http://www.scotcities.com/cathcart/cathcastle_drawn.jpg As always with non-existent buildings you can't walk round to view the 3rd dimension, which has to be purely guesswork. Also drew a wee...

Re: port eglinton

Looks like your mum has solved the mystery of gdmcilvain’s “explosion”, Toaster! Funny how all the different vague half memories come together to get the right answers. There are still a few Hidden Glasgow mysteries we will never know the answer to.................... I had a wee look at your sugges...

Re: port eglinton

Appreciated your insights, Toaster. Great stuff Guacho! Guacho's memories make perfect sense when you look at the aerial photograph with Eglinton Toll in the middle. There is a huge undeveloped gap over where the various railway lines split. http://www.scotcities.com/railways/eglintontoll.jpg What w...

Re: port eglinton

Taken a long time for a reply gdmcilvain, but............... The present works are a serious engineering undertaking. My parents owned a business in shops in Eglinton St facing the Eglinton St railway station. I walked from school daily from 1949 then after a short interval at the end of my school y...

Re: The Glasgow, Paisley & Ardrossan Canal

The site of the canal west of Shields Road, at St Andrews Drive, which was heavily overgrown has been cleared. It is in the process of being levelled to lay track to the new depot being built for a new fleet of 38 Siemens Desiro Class 380 electric trains. http://www.scotcities.com/railways/canal_fla...

Re: Glasgow Quiz

I’m still waiting for suggestions for unusual quiz rounds created from Hidden Glasgow themes.

Please fire away at the new contact address on the quiz web pages, misguidedly designed to avoid spammers.

Re: Glasgow Quiz

I’ve added a new West End Quiz to my quiz pages, with just a couple of rounds to start of off with. Being more of a Southsider, I had to look at old books and maps for the questions and answers, rather than relying on being a smartarse. Hopefully there still may be a few questions to trip up even th...

Re: Glasgow Railway Termini

Fantastic stuff Kalibou! The bridge beside the Nautical College is the City Union Railway Bridge. http://www.scotcities.com/quizzes/quizpic41.jpg The bridge cost half a million pounds to erect over 100 years ago. http://www.scotcities.com/railways/eglinton_doubleline.jpg The City Union Railway Bridg...

Re: A Street Under Argyle Street

Surely the best evidence for all these shopping streets and mythical lost villages can be found in the old maps?

Re: CR Mackintosh

Anyone else interested in drawing and manipulating the images with computer graphics? I wasn’t happy with my original pencil portrait of Mackintosh, I thought it was a bit crap, but it’s difficult to get a realistic image of someone who’s been dead for so long and for whom there are very few photogr...

Re: CR Mackintosh

I’ve created a weird image with lots of Mackintosh heads for my Mackintosh web pages.

The original drawing of the head was made with graphite pencil, before applying the graphics software.

Re: Proposed superstore at Larkfield Bus Depot

Looks like the current pre-application consultation is for the superstore only.

According to their website, plans for the relocated First Glasgow HQ and depot have already been submitted.

The development will cover both sides of the new stretch of motorway, connected by an underpass.
