Re: Major Police Incident Galsgow Fort

I've heard on the wire that a guy operating teams of thieves posing as fake police officers and bank salespeople at OAPs' doors was traced to a market stall in Glasgow Fort - one doing mobiles etc. this could have been the bust.

I knew Duncan and John in the 70's as they played the same circuit as my ex's band. Really nice blokes.
Are they the Cameron Brothers band who play in Busby?

Yes. They now play mostly Scots Folk in Busby and Auldhouse.

Re: Films set in Glasgow, without squalor, neds, or gangster

1. Rumour that Glasgow is doubling for Dublin for a sequence in 'The Hangover 3' (would've been the other way around years ago but that's world economics for ye!) 2. I watched 'The Dark Knight Rises' and am recognising the opening shot (hijack of a private plane above hilly grassland) as maybe the c...

But, no.

A damned shame... Where the Hell are Historic Scotland in these matters? A six-foot-mutant flea should be deposited in the ear of City Chamners!

Re: Farmers markets

Best one in my humble opinion is the market at Hamilton top cross, on Quarry St, most Saturday mornings. Farmers from Clyde Valley, Carluke, Lezmahagow and Lanark serving up game and home made delights at about a tenth of the cost. I'm not a raving Nationalist, but you at least get the homegrown Sco...

Underground World: Underneath the Red Road Flats

Bittersweet times are these as the blocks are soon to be demolished. My childhood trips to Barmulloch to visit my Granny and Papa were heralded by the Red Road flats - an institution or a blight depending on who you listen to. Anyway, I don't know if anyone has posetd to Hidden Glasgow about this si...

Re: Let Glasgow Flourish- Coat Of Arms

This play available on Kindle on amazon.co.uk puts a kind of fantasy spin on St Mungo and his coat of arms:

Re: Sculptures and Statues around Glasgow

I think that the large bronze eagle currently found above one of the walls in the Barrs' wee red-brick, semi-new courtyard bit, originally adorned the front admissions gate of Calderpark Zoo. I maybe wrong... I'll grap a photae of it.

The C&A Coin-Operated Palomino Horse Ride

I didn't know where to put this so maybe the mods can find a decent home for it. Ever since C&A transferred to TJ Hughes (now, sadly, too going out of business) I quested to find just exactly where the C&A ride-on, coin operated, fibreglass Palomino horse from their first floor had gone. I'v...

Re: Best Burger in Glasgow

I need to nominate 'Bloc' on Bath Street (up at the top) - my mum had a brilliant chargrilled cheeseburger while myself and another veggie friend enjoyed a brilliant veggieburger. Their chips are like huge blocks (no pun intended) of roast tatties. Edible 'Jenga' bricks. Lovely.

Re: Romani People in Glasgow/Scotland

Talking to my mate about this topic and what could be added he reminded me of one thing and told me about another: 1) As you come into East Kilbride from the Rutherglen/Kingsgate end, across the dual carriageway from PC world there is now a mini village of fast food and gastropubs (the Lee Burn, Fra...

Re: Glasgow Zoo

I made my way there today, but didn't hae the courage to go near the old Calder Park zoo. I spoke to an old guy who joked that he didn't know if any animals had been left in the derelict zoo site, but people in the surrounding area, going walking in the woods near dusk, had spotted this: http://www....
