Re: The Inverse Square Law

Joe, you're re-phrasing with what I just posted. ...there are simpler ways to calculate exposure, either with a meter (flash meter for flash), using guide numbers (a separate problem) or using (usually) on camera flash which automatically calculates how much light should be generated. Re: The Inverse Square Law

That'll be it I reckon, definitely. Looks like the physicist was right about being too close for it to matter, except he wasn't really sure that he was right... If anyone else is curious, I followed up PJ's post with a trip down Wikipedia lane. Here's an extract from the Inverse Square Law page as a...

Ah-hah, that might be the penny on the floor. It was something like this: ////////////////////////////////////////////////// ------------------White backdrop------------------ \ / \ / \ / \ / x x ---White board--- ----White board--- O \|/ | / \ \ \ _____x (probably with a softbox) O __ ||__ |_______|

Re: The Inverse Square Law

You seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill...if that is what you want and the camera will select the shutter speed I'm talking about using the camera on full automatic in a studio. Maybe I should have made it clear that in the studio shutter speed don't make much difference, since the flash...

Re: Glasgow city shots August 2009

Ah, that makes sense :) Is it a specifically Glasgow thing or common in the west generally? It's all done underground everywhere else I can think of. Not that I go round the country noting lamp post wiring, honest. That's what I think of when I picture lamp-posts - I thought that was just how most ...

Spotted? Pizza Hut

Were you the customer with the big Lowepro bag I served in Pizza Hut on Sunday night, with a family of 4? Had the table booked? Note to mods: Sorry, I was trying to classify this post but it doesn't really belong in any of the 4 boards, but I'm not photo-sharing, it's not about equipment and I'm not...

The Inverse Square Law

Briefly - since my battery is dying - I was on the Basic Studio Photography course at the Met. The instructor was discussing which lens to use for portraiture and recommended about 70mm because shorter would give you distortion and longer would require you to be standing on the other side of the roo...
