Re: random question

Does anyone know how old this building is?

http://goo.gl/maps/9BnLv

Found an ancestor who's address on the 1901 census was 227 Church St, district of Maryhill.
Church St became Sandbank St and there is a No 227 however would this building been around in 1901?

Re: Remembrance Sunday

Great posts. I've started to document the story of my grandfather and a picture he brought back from France. I want to finish it in time for the centenary. I logged on to Ancestory.co.uk for the first time ever and after a few minutes I found his service papers. Eighteen years and one month old - he...

Re: Norn Iron

Thanks Dot,
I must do a trip up to see some of the sights.
You know how it is down here, so bereft are we of decent sized shops that a trip up to Belfast usually means only one thing-shopping. :)

Re: Help Me Find A Pic

Revisiting this thread as it's sort of relevant.

I'm trying to locate both in picture and detail- Lambhill Crescent, Lambhill, Glasgow.

I have an old document and the person who signed it (1917) stated Lambhill, nr Glasgow :)

Re: Norn Iron

I was here today. There was a tunnel which would have linked Courthouse and Gaol. Courthouse is in bad state but did tour of Gaol. Albert Pierrepoint hanged a few people here and believe quickest execution was seven seconds. Nobody from Northern Ireland could hang the prisoners so the hangmen had t...

Re: Tenement Life

Id say flats are newer build types, but the old late 1800s are all tenements... its described as a multi sub standard dwelling in the urban core.... but you canny call the posh wans up the Parade.. Partick, Dowanhill that...I think there is a big gap between slums and tenements.. I had the chance t...

Think he was in a tree and a stun gun was used but other monkey still at large.

the other monkey is probably a bit of a party animal and will stagger back on Sunday evening ;)

Re: Norn Iron

So according to some poll(?) the happiest people in the UK are the N. Irish and the happiest people in N. Iron are from Fermanagh. Don't make me laugh - they must have asked a crowd leaving the Bookies (after a win) enroute to the pub. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-24650757 and the headline in one of...

Re: Hotels...too many or not enough?

Is there any major events happening in Glasgow post 2014? It's a pity about the Lorne eyesore as I always thought that end of Sauchiehall St needed refreshed (not been there for years so maybe it has apart from the hotel) It's walking distance for tourists coming from the town to the Art Galleries/K...

Re: Lost Retail Chains

Lost Shop Millers Arts and Crafts - 180 years old http://www.millers-art.co.uk/ That's quite a shame, I used to work for them and broke the golden rule of screwing one of the crew ( later married her). I hope David and Linda Miller have mortgage insurance for that converted church on Newlands Road....
