Re: Youth Olympic Games

no fuck up, it was a good solid bid (all docs and presentation to IOC available on tinternet), comparable with the other two, the voting just didn't go glasgows way, this time. around £2million spent. brought forward the Sighthill TRA timescale by 20 years. and yes, the redevelopment will still go a...

Re: The Co-op Building...

the co-op building being a rejected design for the city chambers is myth, the angel was a statue of liberty made of concrete that indeed held a torch, coloured red and lit by electricity, it was removed in the 90s due to safety concerns

Re: tunnels

interesting foties. could it be that these wooden sockets are actually the original wooden beams, encased in steel plate and dowsed in concrete for strengthening? Anyone else notice that there's some work going on in the St Vincent Crescent tunnel in the last week or so? Spotted some heavy machinery...

Re: Kelvinhaugh Street - Car Showroom

The matching design could not have had a rounded corner to refer to the street corner and other gushets. The building where the Goat is has this snub nose design and it does not look as good as the rounded original. inclined to agree, although the calibre of just such a proposal further west along ...

Re: Sixty Steps - another urban myth?

BBC4? How rude ::): Least. Subtle. Bodyswerve. Ever. My analysis is merely based on a decade worth of reading, a familiarity with Thomson's body of work and an appreciation of the rational behind the devices he borrows and manipulates to achieve the subtlety of effect which is so distinctly Thomson ...

Re: Sixty Steps - another urban myth?

I would agree that there is nothing concrete in the online HS reports that links Thomson directly to this work, but I wouldn't take that as any sort of indication that it was not his creation. I don't find it convenient for the date of construction to be given as 1872/3 - merely a statement of fact?...

Re: Sixty Steps - another urban myth?

interesting thread - more like this please! can't help but think you answered your own question in your initial post though Why would you appoint an Architect, rather than a Civil Engineer, for the complex job of designing a massive retaining wall? ... In the early 1870’s Thomson was in poor health ...
