There are lots of different types of violence. My favouite is when corrupt regimes of long standing get sprayed with effluent in the town square.

Shall we get George square ready ?

access to the high rise buildings is harder now for non residents mayhaps. Maybe the secret is to get there before 11.30 and use the trades button on the intercom. Then it's just a case of wandering about and taking evocative shots of long corriders etc.... I love those kind of images. robert.

::):
A friend of mine told me that as a misbehavin' kid - one of his uncles hung him from his legs out of the 22nd floor of one of the red road flats as mischevious sort of tongue in cheek punishment.

You just can't get that kind of thrill at the Shows.

high rise photography

I'd love to come back to Glasgow to take some photographs of the high rises. I'm sure it would be an evocative subject matter both inside and out. Is there still the danger that whilst standing beneath one of them - a large widescreen tv could come crashing down at any moment? and if so, is it worth...

violence

hey, violence and glasgow. i've got a theory and it's based on some personal experience. If cities are like people, then perhaps those cities with low self worth(industry now gone) and poor parents(GCC) are more likely to strike out in the horror of violence. I forgive the violence that happened to ...

errr

I like it. I like modern intermingled with older and I think they can compliment one another. One adds to the other in this development and I think it works aesthetically. I'm not an architectural snob, just as long as they don't destroy what already earned its place to be there. ie. what's happened...

I don't live in Glasgow presently - so I don't have the luxury of the local information you may have.

But thank you for your kind correction

great stuff

Thanks for that link waldbass. Is Farme cross now gone then? It would be interesting (but sad) to make a catalogue of all the victorian/edwardian buildings that were destroyed for the M70. Really: they just wouldn't get away with that kind of thing in the west end would they? Who knows. They did the...

definitely

hi, Being out of glasgow I've missed the whole M70 thing. One thing I do know is that the last remaining part of Oatlands was demolished to make way for it (am i right?). My cousin used to live there and they were great hooses. If you look at images on virtual mitchell library of Oatlands (i think t...

the car indeed

Yes, The car did a lot of damage along with the flyover. But it doesn't explain the sheer scale of what went on in the 60/70/80's. It really took them that long to see through the demolition of vast areas of the city that weren't always touched by the motorway. The whole thing was on an unprecedente...

Darling city

It really breaks my heart to see how much of Glasgow they took from us. The diaspora from victoriana to the concrete towers. We may not all have had indoor toilets but we did have one another. We had all that sandstone and a graceful sense of belonging. Those things can never be rebuilt. I often won...
