Re: Battle Burn

I'm bumping this subject as I am looking for photos of the Golden Gates Hotel / Stakis Mount Vernon Hotel or and / or the building which became the Hotel. Was it a new-build or was it the old house that once stood there converted into an Hotel? Any pics of the house or surroundings would be apprecia...

Re: Dud Cars.....

We bought a Chrysler Alpine from the Car Market. It looked in reasonable condition when we bought it, but we discovered it to have some flaws…. Such as, it couldn’t seem to pump the fuel to the engine successfully when we went up a hill (Unfortunately at the time, we lived at the top of a hill). It ...

Re: Whats the story?

William Alexander and his father, James, were both haulage contractors, who must have had a fondness for their horses. Their address was 469 Pinkston Road, although William died at 5 Park Circus Place. He died of an illness, not in an accident, so perhaps that address was a clinic or hospital in 1936.

Re: Gartnavel Hospital A&E

When the Western closes, you will have to be able to get to the Southern General (or South Glasgow Hospital, as it seems to be known now). If you are not ill enough to need an ambulance and you use public transport, you'll be dead by the time you get there. :( Anyone know if there will be A&E fa...

Re: Postcard dated November 1st. 1932

I'm sorry to say that, as far as I can ascertain, the Rennie family ended with no direct descendants. Isabella died in 1989, Eleanor in 1996, both unmarried and living at the same Glasgow address. Evelyn, who did marry and moved to Perthshire, pre-deceased her husband in 1975, and he died in 1988. T...

Re: Postcard dated November 1st. 1932

Bridie, the management of the Museum have asked me to try to trace any living relatives. I already know that only one of the three daughters married and will be visiting the Mitchell next week to find out if any of them had any children. Obviously , the one who married would appear to be the best be...

Re: Buses Today

The 'improvement' to our already abysmal service is that it no longer serves one of the main shopping centres and goes from a 20 minute service to a 30 minute service.

Re: IDS calls "War!" on the Great Unwashed.

On Question Time last night, George Galloway said this 'bedroom tax' would turn out to be Cameron's Poll Tax. I think he may be correct!

Re: Postcard dated November 1st. 1932

If everyone wants me to, I can try to trace any living relatives. (I've done it successfully from my family tree in the case of a runaway wife abducting two children, both girls).

I'm afraid in this case some might think it is akin to stalking. What do you think, guys?

Re: Postcard dated November 1st. 1932

Thanks, guys. :) I've enjoyed this wee project - I had reached a brick wall in my Family History research, so it kept me out of mischief! The people at the Mitchell archives are so helpful and the material they have is amazing, thanks to the foresight of people who have deposited documents with them...
