Re: Tenemental Mansions in Glasgow

This is one of my all time favourite threads, so I have a wee update. I was in a meeting at the Clydesdale Bank and saw a painting I liked, a nice landscape with sheep. Noted down the artists name - John Cunningham, who turns out to be a well know figure: http://www.johncunningham.org.uk/ On his we...

There was a nondescript wee cafe among the shops below where I often ate. I started a thread in another place about today being the 30th annive...

Re: Help placing 2 old photos (Scotstoun/Scotstounhill)

They must have demolished a lot of those houses. I remember playing in one of them in the last row left shortly after the shopping centre was built. The house was in a sorry state and all the kids would risk their necks running through it. Wonder how old the trees are and if the one in the original ...

Re: glasgow construction industry

Welcome to HG sonnyj99 :D One of HG's members - ibtg found these for me. There's not much technical detail, more sentimental, it was the tenements I knew in Possil and the house in Hillend St, Lambhill- both still there. The history of housing in Glasgow is a very interesting subject, I'm doing an a...

Lodging Houses

Were the Lodging houses the same as the Poorhouse?
What does 'Model' mean?
Is there any details or lists of all the Lodging houses from 1800's to around early 1900's anywhere?

Re: random question

Anyone else done research on Scotland's People and came across the idiot register, circa 1860's, who wrote in ineligible slanted hand writing - what do you do then?
Could it be easier to read the actual copy- if ordered?

Re: random question

Church St became Sandbank St and there is a No 227 however would this building been around in 1901? My guess would be 1890's probably latte...
