Re: One for the railway heads

I visited the Riverside Transport Museum for the first time last week. I was not impressed by it. There seems to have been a lot of money spent on reclaiming the ground, the foundations and the building envelope, but little thought to internal layout of the building. For me it just does not work as ...

Re: Smoking in closes

The Egg Man wrote:I'd ban smoking 100%. Absolutely everywhere and to hang with the consequences for income from duty.

I'd also ban diesel (and petrol) engines from being used in enclosed spaces.

Re: In desperate need of some advice on location.

I think that bit of the area is fine now. Up towards Tambowie Street and Netherton Road used to be a bit run down rather than rough, but that area is getting redeveloped also.

Re: Polmadie Regeneration

Anybody know if they are doing anything regarding the Richmond Park end of Polmadie Road? (the Glasgow Green end, not the Aitkenhead Road bit). It is an absolute tip and that poor church is just sitting there ramshackled, the old allotments look a state too. Taking a video there today and didn't no...

Re: Are the tenements on Colebrooke St leaning backwards ?

Planning Consent has been given for the new Glasgow Academy Science and Technology Block in Colebrooke Street. So the leaning tenements of Colebrooke Street will soon be no more. After over 130 years of existence the tenements started to lean more when under the scrutiny of the Structural Engineer f...

West Ends Luftmine UXB

Earlier in this thread, the Luftmine which landed at the corner of Queen Margaret Drive at Queen Margaret Road is noted. I read with interest in Andrew Jeffrey’s “This Time of Crisis (Glasgow, the West of Scotland and the North Western Approaches in the Second World War)”, that it was one of two Luf...

Re: Demolition of yet another Glasgow School

Why does the football stadium quarter need to be a brand new build? Could the school not be encoroprated or am I being too clever by half??? Mr Confused Sam It's usually very costly to refurbish and convert a building that was originally designed for another purpose. But not necessarily more expens...

Re: Glasgow Home Insulation Scheme is now available citywide

Cavity wall insulation. Good way to bridge that gap between the outside wall and the inside wall and let the rain piss in, cross the cavity and leave a nice mouldy black spore patch to help kill the inhabitants. But they will at least be cosy when their lungs pack in. Even better when it is part pai...

"SPT has started completely revamping Glasgow's ageing subway system at an estimated cost of nearly £290m.

The project will see all 15 stations redeveloped and new driverless trains brought in."

Re: Demolition of yet another Glasgow School

I am not a Celtic fan, I grew up supporting that other great Glasgow team which is now a cornerstone of the Bars Irn Bru 3rd Division (bottom left corner or thereabouts currently). However, I would welcome a football museum. Anything that contributes to the East End as visitor attraction other than ...
