Re: tunnels

Jonno, I had a look at your photos, and clicked on your link to your own site. You have some very good photo there. I really liked the reflection shots in the tunnels, and the graffited (excuse spelling!) wall in Botanic Gardens station. I tried to look at your Greenock ones, but they are password p...

Re: Molendinar Burn

I just presumed that the canal had been filled in, I never knew that it was piped.

Re: One for the railway heads

I dont suppose any of you have a photo of the mock-up loco that floated in the Clyde to commemorate the start of electric services to London? My Dad used to take me to work with him on Saturday mornings to a factory on Clyde St, and I remember seeing it floating roughly where the Underground passes ...

Re: One for the railway heads

Both locos performed very well, considering they were pulling 660 tonnes trailing load. The 47 actually made line speed (90) on the way to Ayr before we caught up with the 1230 Glasgow-Ayr, which we followed signal to signal from Barassie. The 87 also did very well. Again, considering the load, 78 a...

Re: Molendinar Burn

I went down to High St car park today, with the intention of following Ben's footsteps to photograph the burn as it exits then re-enters the tunnels. Because of the building work now progressing on the Great Eastern, there's no access down to the burn. I could only view it from approx 30 feet above ...

Re: A Street Under Argyle Street

From the tunnel side, I don't think so, as I'm pretty sure I'd have noticed it at some point over the years. There's certainly nothing as obvious as the the one at Argyle St, which you cant miss. I cant see it being drainage for the tunnel, because although the tunnel floor is now concrete, with dra...

Re: One for the railway heads

Regarding the 87 being in Weak Field, it will be hauling load 12 plus the 47, so mark that up as 14, so it's quite a train, even with 5000hp. I'm sure it'll perform well. If any of you are in Central or Ayr to see it, please feel free to say hello, it's always nice to put faces to names. And I guess...

Re: A Street Under Argyle Street

I'm not sure at what depth below ground sewers normally run, but if that was what was under the railway line, then it would be slightly more than one storey down. If anyone of you are ever gettin on or off a train at Argyle St station, the girder bridge can I think be seen from the very end of the p...

Re: One for the railway heads

Hi All, i'm new to this forum, only found it by accident last week when doing a Google search on the Molindinar burn. Anyway, I'm the driver of that tour to Ayr this Saturday with the class 87. It will leave Glasgow hauled by a 47 to Ayr with the 87 dead on the rear. At Ayr, the 87 will haul it back...

Route of the Molindinar

I’ve heard there is inspection hatches under Debenhams (Lewis) Building for flood control. used to smell quite damp in the basement(job interview years ago was told when its high tide water does come up that far). Does anyone know how many basements are in that building. I’m guessing 1( that’s in u...

Re: ABANDONED & DISUSED RAILWAYS: High St - Bridgeton Central

What happened to the photos in this topic? Cant view them, and there's nothing on the link to John McGurk's page. I would have liked to see in particular Gallowgate station, as I never knew it exsisted.
