Good point. In today's climate (economic, not environmental!), there's this understanding that all the market wants is there semi detached, front and back garden Barrat or Wimpey built brick boxes. Thing is, like you say, these are mass produced - no accounting for local vernaculars, site conditions...

Its quite strange as well, looking at the old map, the way the streets around there break from the grid pattern (Bothwell Circus and the other one running diagonally) - its still pretty central.

Its the large, quite ornate building just over the Kingston Bridge. Is it the former Co-Op building or something? Its got its name carved on the front but i cant remember it.
