Willie Barr

Anybody else heard or read the mini-books on Glasgow history by William S Barr - my long-deceased grandfather cleaned his windows (probably around the Govanhill/Cathcart area) and the other day I discovered a signed copy of a slim book called “Ghosts of Glasgow”

Re: Gay Glasgow

Proud to say "I was there!"

I was str8 when I went in but the 'availability of drink' turned me gay, as correctly predicted by the objectors

Re: Galloway House Residential School

@ Haggis

Quite likely it was Abbotsford Primary - I went to GH with Abbotsford must have been late 60s. Remember being in Cairnsmore dorm.

Long before I earned my current moniker of course!

Re: Lost Car Dealerships

Unless I've missed it, nobody has mentioned Peter Cannon ("the big noise in Ford's" as the TV Ad said).

Showroom is still there in in Glasgow Road, Rutherglen.

After PC's it became Trust Motors, People's, and now Arnold has it

Re: Gay Glasgow

One thing I will say in favour of the dykes:

Almost as soon as they took over the running of the GLC (and changed the name to LGBT of course) it became a lot easier to nip in for a Coke.

Re: I never thought of this

I have a PAYG mobile with no details in it which I put in a hidden compartment in my gadget bag when I'm out. It is set to silent. If anyone swipes my bag then Mr Plod should be able to watch where it goes. Ummmm, no offence but don't you think that's a little paranoic, not to mention ill thought o...

Re: Gay Glasgow

There was a bar at the top of Hope Street on the right hand side going up, at the brow of the hill. I think it was Guys? That I believe was in the fifties/sixties. Bars not mentioned in the posts. Remember the bar next to the Pavilion, now part of Lauders? One near the pedestrian bridge on the Clyd...

Re: Gay Glasgow

Talking of allegedly gay bars, I was recently told that the Three Judges in Partick is now gay after 7PM. I can't believe this is true! 8O This is not true. Though the judges does have quite a few regular gay customers and is fairly gay friendly but not a bar to go on the pull in. (edit) I cannot b...

Re: Coliseum Cinema Fire

crazygray23 wrote:apparently theres been blackouts in the area today and its been linked to dodgy wiring in that building, dunno if the demolition crews have anything to do with it

More likely one of the local residents screwing the meter has caused the blackouts.
