Anyone know where the Kelvin walkway begins?

I think it's in the general area of the Exhibition Centre train station. Getting off the train at Exhibition Centre, where do you go from there? Thanks in advance.

Has 'The Aragon' on Byres Rd ever had a refurb?

As far as I'm concerned, it's the only pub on Byres Road that's never been refurbed - since the early 70s, anyway. I'm being told I'm wrong about this, and I know the frontage has had a couple of makeovers, but it looks exactly the same to me inside as it did way back then. Any west end old timers o...

Re: Houston Racecourse

A racecourse can't be situated at various locations! What you are almost certainly referring to is point-to-point racing. This is steeplechase racing, usually 3 miles, held on open farmland. These days, point-to-point race meetings are held at specific venues throughout the country, but in the era y...

Re: Requesting info on Botanic Gardens Railway Station

Some good photos of the tunnel and underground railway station in the Botanics on this Youtube clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVojHCux2O4 And this is an expedition through the section under Kelvingrove Park. You're gonna need a bigger torch. Some good info for you in the comments bit. http://w...

Re: Saw a pair of goosanders on the Kelvin, today.

There's been goosanders on the Kelvin for the past few years at least and more than just the one pair. Also cormorants, kingfishers, herons, swans etc Goosanders, cormorants and kingfishers feed exclusively on fish, so the Kelvin must be pretty clean, these days. I think the Lithuanians have had th...

Re: Saw a pair of goosanders on the Kelvin, today.

Have you some pictures of your own for us to see? ........ it would need to be a good camera to take a decent photo of them in the middle of the Kelvin. How true  http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2735/4448735310_0dd09519a8.jpg (2 March 2010 from the bridge at the Botanic Gardens entrance (near ...

Re: Saw a pair of goosanders on the Kelvin, today.

Have you some pictures of your own for us to see? Nah. I'm not much into photography and didn't have a camera with me. They're big birds, bigger than a mallard, but it would need to be a good camera to take a decent photo of them in the middle of the Kelvin. I've seen a flock of them on the Clyde w...

Saw a pair of goosanders on the Kelvin, today.

I walkled the Kelvin walkway from Kelvinbridge to the Botanics today and spied them diving for fish a few yards downstream from the wee bridge just past Queen Margaret Drive that takes you up to the Botanics. They only feed on fish, so they're a good indicator of the state of the river, unless they'...

Re: Requesting info on Botanic Gardens Railway Station

Don't know about the legalities, today, but I walked the length of the tunnel from the Botanics to Kelvingrove in '74. It was fenced off then, but there were plenty of gaps in the fence and no barrier at the tunnel entrance. The station at Gt. Western Rd was the highlight. I know a few well sozzled ...

Re: The Fall Of The House Of Purcell.

Well whit? We're waiting man! Tell us - what his psychiatrist won't. And for the record why has he got a psychiatrist? Dr. Florian Kaplick is the psychiatrist at Castle Craig. He says that Purcell doesn't have a drug problem, which possibly explains why he was in Castle Craig for a weekend rather t...

Re: help needed in remembering pub name up sauchiehall street..

As with many other Stakis hotels it was very popular on Sundays. Its popularity diminished when the pubs opened. I lived in Park Road during the 1970's and used to visit the Charing Cross Hotel now and again on Sundays. It was always absolutely mobbed. To make matters worse the special licence stip...
