Re: Pollok, Househill and Hurlet

Re Methane's story about his uncle and the boiler house, as it was called. Very interesting, thanks for that. We lived in the close next door to the boiler house on Glentyan Drive. There was a high wall separating our back green from the boiler house ground. We would climb the wall, see who could ru...

Re: Pollok, Househill and Hurlet

Maybe no more interest in Craigbank....and apart from those who were there between 1950 and ...when?.. last year ? ......why should there be......it was a place that existed for a short period of time, and even within that time, people in the early years would have h...

Re: Old Glasgow Hospitals

what about the old Mearnskirk Hhospital? I was a patient there as a wee girl from 1948 till 1951 when a lot of it was a TB hospital. It was all set out in pavilions, (now housing) and we wore a "uniform" of white shorts and shirts. Parents were allowed to visit on a Sunday for an hour and...

Re: Pollok, Househill and Hurlet

now that I see the picture, I can understand the confusion about whether the priests house was the first or the second one as you turned into Glenlora from Bankbrae.............the door in the middle shows that it must have started life as two cottages which were later linked by the newer bit in the...

Re: Pollok, Househill and Hurlet

re the photo of the house being upgraded, is this the house on Glenlora Drive that used to be called (this in the 50s and early 60's) the priests' house? If it's the first house as you turn right into Glenlora from Bankbrae Avenue, then it is. Had a very large back garden bounded by an old stone wal...

Re: Pollok, Househill and Hurlet

Hi, found this site quite by accident while researching something else. I lived with my family in Glentyan Drive, from 1951 till 1959. We lived at the top of the hill, I think the power station was next door; across the road was a small wood and further down a sort of rough sloping field, which quic...
