If council tax is based on the value of your house, how does that work if you're renting a flat in a building of flats or a flat in a house? Also, I guess you get a monthly bill? then it's still based (roughly) on the value of the property, and is to be payed for by whoever lives there - you don't ...

would this be anything to do with the fact they tried to sell it for property development 2 years ago, and it would seem didn't find any takers? [scroll down about half-way here: ] http://www.rampantscotland.com/let020223.htm maybe getting consent to knock down a listed building will allow them to s...

That cheap shop, Lidl, were advertising Digital Cameras for about £169. They look alright - anyone got an opinion on them? looks shite (Nytech - who??), despite being 4mega pixel. for the same money, you could get a 3.2 megapixel olympus: http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/photoandvideo/digitalcameras...

you'd also have Council Tax to pay. this is based on the value of the property you're staying in, and I'd guess you'll be in Band D or E on this chart: http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/html/council/dept/fs/counciltax/charges.htm getting a bit political, it's probably going to be phased out in the next few ...

have you seen the film "Man Without A Past", by Finnish director Aki Kaurismaki? the main character ends up homeless, and manages to get a container to live in, rented out by a corruptable security guard who has a small village of tenants living in shipping containers: http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt031...

this is definetely the best of the free mapping sites. multimap is too slow. streetmap's not bad. the best feature of getamap is, click on the link to get a printable copy. find out what the url of that image is, then save it to your pc (they're only temporary copies, so don't last forever). tadaa, ...

old cafes

Sharon, i think you need to do a series on the classy old cafes in Glasgow. As well as Boni's, can I nominate: University Cafe, Byres Road (my local, the takeaway does probably the best value pizzas in Glasgow) Vald'oro - London Road (went in here for a fish tea on Sunday) Jaconelli's - Maryhill Roa...

that last photo is freaking me out a bit. it looks like you've taken two photos from the same spot, but at seperate times. one the old decayed building, the other painted white with some posters stuck up. then done some clever digital manipulation. but i know that's not what you've done... it's like...

I was walking past during the demolition, and the builders had painted large signs saying things like "caution: tunnel underneath here!", etc. it could be either rail tunnels (Queen Street to High Street perhaps?), or wasn't the...
