Re: Strathbungo Parish Church

hello, when i attended this church, from 1962-1971, it was hugh martin who was minister, i can't remember the captains name, but he was a real old school gentleman, with a strong faith and he was a real inspiration to us. I remember going to BB camp at carnoustie in 1969, the officers set up a tv po...

Re: Strathbungo Parish Church

The church had large dark wooden beams and a high tapered ceiling. It was a church of scotland so there were no statues or carvings, but there were nice stained glass windows around the side of the sanctuary and balcony.

Re: Strathbungo Parish Church

This was a beautiful church in it's day. i attended it for sunday school and the 20th Glasgow company of the boys brigade , i think it was still in use till the early 80's. The sanctuary was all dark mahogany, carved wooden pews and pillars. At the time i attended it was a busy and vibrant place wit...

Re: port eglinton

I used to live at 345 pollokshaws road, just by the petrol station, in the mid 60's. At that time the petrol station had yet to be built and a rather nice bungalow occupied the land. I remember being told it was a show home for a builder in the mearns. At the back of the houses, opposite the bus dep...

Re: Glasgow’s best and worst concerts

best gigs, Alex Harvey band at Parkhead in 1976, they were supporting the Who, but blew them away, and Blue Nile last year in the concert hall, what a sound.

worst gig was Clapton at the Apollo, late seventies, he was smashed and the support act was a puppet show which had to leave quickly!

Re: Colin and Justin are so wrong ... Arden is OK!

In lived in the flat that was used by colin and justin, from 1969 -79. My father was a painter and decorator and believe me that flat was immacculate. Arden in those days was an ordinary working class estate, yes there were a few bad closes, but the majority of people were decent and the estate was ...

This is a panorama taken from the new footpaths behind the new houses of parkhouse road. The M77 and Deaconsbank are to the left and Barrhead High school is on the right. The woods in the middle are Waulkmill Glen, which hopefully will be part of the new Darnley Mills country park. Well worth a walk...
