Re: Cambuslang-mystery pitch & building

Re the Savoy cinema I remember a school visit in the 1950s from St Brides. We all trooped down Greenlees Road and entered via the back lane behind the Royal bank. Years later when watching a feature film there, a short came on between the main films and to everyones surprise it was a film of all us...

Re: "dookits"

Hi, can anyone help? I'm attempting to carry out an art project on dookits and the culture around them but there is very little on the net. I have a friend who's neighbour has a loft and he explained it's a sort of kidnapping game, whoever can tempt a bird into their loft gets to keep it? I was hop...

Re: Gilbertfield Castle

Sorry got my east / west mixed up. I don't know why but i seem to be able to read maps better by holding them upside down with the south being at the top. Strange i know but its allways been easier for me that way.

Re: Gilbertfield Castle

I've not been to Gilbertfield castle in years now, i used to love going there and climbing around the ruins. I can remember on the open face of the east wall you could get access to the remains of a stairwell and from there you could climb onto the first level with quite a well preserved room that i...

Re: Fossil hunting around Glasgow

When i was a small lad i used to play "doakies" along the bank of the burn that runs past whitlawburn in cambuslang. One fateful day i jumped on what looked like a solid surface and it turned out to be a thin layer of soil covering a thick band of slate or something like that. All i rememb...

Re: "dookits"

RE: Cambuslang dookit From what i've seen and read on the net,the dookit in cambuslang golf course used to be part of the westburn house estate. Due south from it was quite a large curling pond and north-west side was a ornate fountian, sadly now long gone. However on some sites like google earth you...

Re: Cambuslang-mystery pitch & building

I'm glad I got the Savoy Bingo hall in Cambuslang listed the week that it closed, at least Wetherspoon's can't just tear the interior out now! Glad to know it's been listed, i worked in there for a very happy seven years starting of running the floor giving out 20p's change for the prize bingo then...
