Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Amazing I don't remember that, as I hail from Renfrew, minutes from Paisley. What a line up. I do recall the staid music shop Cuthbertsons mentioned on the poster, I used to go there on payday when I was a teenager assistant to the Town Clerk. I bought Tadpoles by the Bonzos and the Nuggets psych co...

Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Hmmm. My ex told me to cut my hair, saying "Prog rock, not a good look for an OLD MAN"! Ouch.

Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Gong show I remember as impressive, also John Cale did a great gig there with Chris Spedding on guitar. I saw Captain Beefheart at the Kelvin Hall which was a crappy place for gigs but he was impressive, with a ballet dancer and a belly dancer (visual word pun?) onstage.I know this is going to make ...

Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Yes, I heard before I got there too - wish I'd gone and met DB as he's one interviewee that eluded me in my time as a rock hack. I also regret that a gig by Eno and the Winkies at the Apollo was cancelled due to the man having a collapsed lung!

Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I saw Bowie at the Apollo, but it's absolutely true he was scheduled to play an earlier gig at City Hall. I was gutted when it was cancelled, but I've never heard it was because he was thought unsuitable (though the council were always a prissy, parochial bunch!). I can't swear to it but think that ...

Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Admirable. I still feel angst about treasures I sold when desperate (the book England's Hidden Reverse signed by Coil et al; Radio City original vinyl signed by Alex Chilton; Bosie Douglas sonnets inscribed by vicar who bailed Wilde - originally found for 4 quid; etc etc). Nowadays I subscribe to th...

Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I even remember Bungalow before it was a venue. I'd pass it on the bus circa early 70s and weirdly there'd always be a dog running about on the friggin roof!

Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I can't watch on mobile and am so primitive I don't have computer it says is needed to view; but can't understand why I'm being sent what appears to be a link to a Was Not Was video? Sorry if am being thick, but how does this relate to Capaldi/Scotland? Apologies for any obtuseness!

Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Wow, didn't know he made any albums. Would be grateful to hear details of label etc. I remember the whole band were art students at the time I saw them.

Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I am old enough to recall The Bungalow as a venue. When I was at Sounds I came back from London to interview a band called The Dream Boys whose lead singer was Peter Capaldi - yes, THAT Peter Capaldi. I knew he had the ambition to make it big in some sphere when he later turned up at my flat in Prim...

Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Has anyone seen the supposedly outrageous Ginger Baker documentary, where the blurb has him saying God is only keeping him alive to punish him for past sins?

Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Re Ginger Baker, I believe Elvin Jones once said of him, when asked by Albert Goldman to review one of his solos, that there was little behind the ego - that "the cat aint got nuthin goin on", or words to that effect. Of course, there was no love lost between them as EJ replaced GB in some...
