Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

I know this has very little to do with Cumbernauld but I came across this report about an Italian town in a mag and thought that looks familiar, at least their cinema is still there.

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

Does anyone know what is going on down at the station. Last week a lot of the bushes and a few trees were cleared just south of the train platform, fine I thought the council had decided to landscape what was a bit of a mess. But this week a fence has been erected and today a hell of a lot more tree...

Re: What Are You Currently Reading

Bleak House, it's a bit of a struggle though. Dickens' books are so long you can use them as doorstops.

Re: Old Bottles

Can you make out what the top word is in the imprint? that'll be the bottle manufacturer, try an online search of that name, as for usage I'm sure someone else will put you right but maybe it was a ginger beer bottle

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

A few pics from the penthouses. The final photo is what you see just through the front door, don't know if they would've been split into two or three apartments, small rooms certainly. Bit of a letdown to be honest. now if they'd only open up the cdc club, hopefully that'd be more of a time capsule.

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

I was up having a look around one of the old penthouse offices this morning as part of the open doors event. Quite a few others had the same idea, it's open again tomorrow starting at 11am. There was a few comments about how it was a pity the owners hadn't gone the extra mile to make it look like it...

Re: Mud Larking

From the articles I've seen the Thames is pretty much stoney whereas the Clyde is mud, you might need a metal detector, and life insurance. If you've one of those fangled contraptions try the shore down Dumbarton way, bullets a plenty down there.

Re: Uncovered: Old Shop Signs (temporarily revealed)

Sorry if these have been done before, was out for a wander round Partick way on Monday and came across these two. The first one is on the side of the new Greggs opposite the Stumps pub just across from Merkland street, there was a couple of guys who appeared to be working to clean/reveal the signs. ...

Re: Glasgow railways... if..

Actually the stations at Abronhill and Glenboig and also Plains on the Airdrie/Bathgate line could be moving a small step closer. We'd had a flyer through the door from NLC asking for comments to a consultation about transport in these three areas, so here's hoping. A station at Abronhill would be a...

Re: The Buck Rogers Bar.

That looks so shit so it does and you can't even blame it on the early 80s as it seems every year there's a crap Xmas experience that shuts on opening day in the papers, is it overblown optimism? when me and my pals when into town at about the same time as this we usually went to Henry Healy's or th...

Re: Does Glasgow need new shops?

Ach you pretty much give up hope with planners don't you? you can't magic up new shoppers out of nowhere it's just a greater concentration of customers in an ever decreasing area. If it was in my power I'd get rid of all major shopping centres, horrible horrible places to visit, too hot and way too ...

Re: Tower Block Demolitions - Rolling Updates!

That's a great bit of work Gaucho, my wee gran lived up on Kirkton Ave and I'd see these flats on my way to the station. A part of me feels nobody really cares about these buildings, when and why they went up and when they came down, that no-one is documenting them apart from us amateurs.

Re: random radio clyde old biddies - dead or alive

This doesn't really connect to the main thread but does anyone remember Radio Clyde selling all their vinyl about 15-20 years ago in the Secc, moving to cd or whatever. Got a few white labels/promos which of course I still don't have. It was the death of vinyl.

Re: Past Present Vol 2

Yes excellent job, the lordship's photo is just sad, to see it today isolated in touristland when the other photo shows it amongst the day to day life of Glasgow
