Re: Hospitals & Asylums

Drumchapel Hospital also appears to be on the way out. Most patients are going to level 8 at Gartnaval and the GP out of hours appears to be going to Gartnaval.

Re: been on the telly?

I was in London at Waterloo Station around 8am -it must have been 1998 or possibly 1999. Anyway Anthea Turner, small blond woman was with some blokes and a TV crew advertising some special discount rates for the Millenium Dome. I was felling pretty fed up and when the camera was thrust towards me wi...

Re: Where is Glasgow?

Useless information corner. Drumchapel until taken over by Glasgow was part of Dunbartonshire. Due to the war even as late as 1949 Drumchapel was part of a Dunbartonshire constituency and if in Drumchapel you voted for a Dunbartonshire candidate. Church parish's were part of Dunbartonshire and to th...

Re: Glasgow Street Characters Old and New

Nell Todd was fairly well known! My sister worked in M&S and Nell came to get clothes in the gents section. There was a disagreement amongst the staff male/female as to who should supervise her in the changing room trying on men's trousers! My sister also recals an incident as she tried on men's...

Re: Auld Glesga Trams & Buses

Date I would suggest July/August 1962. No 30 from Blairdardie was one of the last routes. The Clyde Valley Stompers are on Empire Theatre Bill. Their big hit Peter and Wolf in charts in June/July or so 1962.

Re: Glasgow Street Characters Old and New

No. I don't remember the two ladies. But I remember the gentleman who sold I think some sort of " African ! snake oil" that cured everything at the Barras. He was "sort of" famous or infamous. I recall he used to do a sort of war type dance as he gave his sales pitch. Then there ...

Re: Does Glasgow need new shops?

Our leader promises 1500 new jobs. But probably that number are going as shops close like Crockets. I gave up shopping in Glasgow years ago as the city leaders become more and more "anti" car.

Re: Crocket is to close

So yet another long established company moves out of Glasgow. We are "promised" 1500 "new" jobs a few hundred yards away. Are these part time minimum wage. How many more shops will closer in Argyle St and Sauchiehall Street? I now go to Braehead. I am afraid I now longer come int...

Re: Agnes Hislop Memorial Libraries

I seem to recall someone coming round Oakbank Hospital in around 1949 giving kids books -they were very used- from this group. Only reason I know because I threw out a kids book with a John Bull type stamp on it with that name a year or so ago. I think I got discharged from hospital before they came...

Re: The Garngad

Hi Jock. Was that at the carriage shop? I recall the foreman Charlie Fletcher. They refurbished a set amount a week and quite often the quota was done by Friday first thing! I don't know if you were ever in the stores place. It was at the east and was an amazing aladins cave. They had different pack...
